IDS (intrusion detection systems)- Intrusion detection system is the final method of physical security, this is like a database which is linked to all products, rooms in the building, so when someone tries to gain unauthorised to a certain room/building it alerts security of them who then deal with it. It is also used across business network, to watch/monitor the activity which is occurring over the network and prevents any suspicious activity from occurring over the network, ensuring company rules and laws are not being broken. For example the intrusion system is used in Sandwell College to track books which are overdue, it works by when users, sign out if they owe a book it beeps and turns red at them this informs them that they need to return the book. This promotes security, because it informs the appropriate personnel of issues in the business being caused and that they need to resolve them. The proxy server at Sandwell college informs the IT Dept., when users try to access blocked websites, it then monitors there search habits to prevent them accessing unauthorised websites and it stops viruses and hackers from infecting and breaking into the system.
