Use of backups- is another security method, it is basically backing up/having a spare copy of your data or files, RAID is the method used, within network of organisations to keep a backup of data, as it stores the same data in 2 locations, this means if the first locations breaks down or fails when you try to open the data, you can rely on the other back up, as the data is still there, there are 2 categories of backups in Backups, incremental and differential, an incremental back up is where data is backed up following a schedule so over a period of a week or 2 weeks etc., whereas an differential back up only backups the files that have been edited or newly created, differential back up offers quicker recovery time. On site and off site back-ups are also back up methods; on site is where a backup of the data/files is done within the organisation premises for example, whereas an off-site back up is backing up online, on google drive for example, so if the data is lost or deleted you can log onto google drive and recover it. Another form of backups is physical storage mediums such as portable hard drives and USB (memory) sticks. HSBC would use the variety of backups to store/back up important, confidential data, just in case it is lost, as it means they will have a spare copy of it, so they will be able to restore quickly this means it won’t affect the day to day running of the business.
